Reinforced polymer construction
Separate unseparated.
On the one hand a ready-to-use article (pipe, wing or blade etc.) made of any material presents a construction. At the same time, when we say about glass plastic pipe, we mean that the material for its manufacture is glass plastic. The latter in its turn and independent of geometric sizes is also a construction consisting of bindering polymeric material (binder) and reinforcing material. Roughly speaking, a ready-to-use article (pipe, wing, blade, yacht or boat) – this is a constructions and requirements to them we should separate! Unseparated and simultaneous is only molding process of a ready-to-use article with its geometric sizes and material of which it is made, that is, reinforced polymer.

Sush a situation is similar to the principle “SEPARATE and GOVERN”. This opens unlimited possibilities practically for designers and technologists, while a finished product usually acquires unique complex of properties.

To characterize ready-to-use article produced of polymeric material suffice it to know:

-         properties of binder and/or polymeric matrix;

-         properties and nature of reinforcing material;

-         method of the manufacture of reinforced polymeric material and ready-to-use article of it.

For example, glass plastic has 60-70% of tensile strength owing to glass thread or other reinforcing material. At the same time for impact resistance, flexural strength limit and work service temperature of the material, determining properties of binder are the following: its adhesion to reinforcing material, strength characteristics of polymer matrix, heat resistance etc.

Production of ready-to-use reinforced polymeric materials has no anything intricate things!!!

Binders are the products of processing of one or other type of starting raw materials, which contain, besides the main polymer, plasticizer set, adhesion addilives, wetting and spread agents, hardeners and co-hardeners etc. Introduction of these additives and chemical modification of starting raw material makes it possible that this polymeric material to bind reinforcing material providing high strength and obtaining monolithic reinforced polymeric construction.

The binders are classified depending on used raw materials type (epoxy, phenolic etc), depending on cure type (“hot” or “cold”), depending on aggregative state during application process of binder on reinforcing material or processing method of reinforcing material together with applied binder (binders-melts, binders processed by prepreg method etc.).

Reinforcing materials
Reinforcing materials can be produced in the form of elementary filament, chopped filament, roving (some handreds of elementary filaments together), fabric (filament or roving interweaved by special way).

Applicability of one or other form of reinforcing material is, as a rule, determined by method of the fabrication of reinforced polymeric material and technology of the manufacture of ready-to-use article (for details see corresponding section).

Methods of the manufacture of reinforced polymer materials
Here review on methods of the manufacture of reinforced polymeric constructions (glass plastics, carbon plastics, organic plastics) and ready-to-use articles of them (pipes, channels, profiles, shifts, different rotation bodies, large-dimension parts, such as bumper, interceptor, yacht, wind, blade etc.).
